Truth by the Layers
It’s been a while since I’ve touched on sneaker-related content. I began dabbling in sneaker reporting on my own personal Tumblr account back in 2009; then later in 2015, it was back to back sneakers news from a female perspective at MISSBISH. From there, I created a couple of pieces for Finish Line and have since put a focus on developing more thought-provoking content — not that there’s nothing “thought-provoking” about a beautiful pair of sneakers.
The Air Max 97 is hands down one of my favorite Nike shoes of all time. The classic upper featuring mesh detailing, the reflective material, iconic stripes and the comfy bubble unit. The silhouette was inspired by the high-speed bullet trains in Japan (I’m aiming to go next year). Gold is one of my favorite colors, so copping this color way was a no brainer.
Sneakers have become an integral part of my life. If I can’t conduct a meeting, go to a party or a work event being able to wear a pair, then I would rather not participate. I can only bring my best foot forward if I’m able to express myself in a way that feels most true.
As I get older, I find myself holding onto self-expression closer and tighter. Call me a late bloomer, but now that in my late 20s, I’m realizing the power of my voice. I’m letting go of the notion of asking for permission to do the things I want to do, go places I want to go to, write about things I want to write about, wear what I want to wear.
With that being said, this isn’t a fashion blog or a lifestyle platform. It’s a place of expression, where I jot down my thoughts + share my work.
